How long has it been since the last time I blogged? I don't know, that's how long. I have been working at that dreaded CPA firm for six months now, and I have already transitioned into my second position... it turns out it's not so dreaded after all. I pretty much love it there. Another follow up: after all of that worrying about the ticket and I didn't even get my defensive driving done in time. Now I have to go back to the courthouse to explain to the judge why I suck so much that I can't even take defensive driving over a three month period.

I am the Recruiting and Human Resources Coordinator at my office now and that makes me smile.

Cory is handsome, I am happy, and so on and so forth. Consider this blog updated.

Cory: Not everything has to be an argument.

me: Not everything is an argument.

Cory: Then stop being so argumentative.

me: I am not being argumentative.

health goes viral

A couple of weeks ago I was preparing dinner and Cory was sitting at the bar surfing the interwebs. In the process of doing so he came across intel that David Sedaris would be in Houston at Jones Hall on April 28. (If you don't know who David Sedaris is then shame on you.) Cory and I are both very fond of him (as many lovely and interesting people are) and we decided immediately that tickets should be purchased. It is about this same time that it occurred to me that my darling mother is one of those lovely and interesting people who appreciate the humor of Mr. Sedaris. (Not only that, but mother's day is coming up.) Presto! Cory bought tickets and a mother's day gift was born.

Cut to Wednesday, we get all gussied up and have some mexican food at Aztecas then head to the show. Everything was fantastic, David was fabulous in person, and then I started getting REALLY thirsty. When I dropped my mama off I went inside and downed five full glasses of water before driving home to have three more. Around two o'clock in the morning I was awakened by a sore throat after which I was unable to return to the peaceful slumber that such pain had interrupted. Upon waking up in the morning I had no voice and felt miserable. I made a doctor's appointment for 4:00 PM to find out that I have a VIRAL INFECTION. WTF? I was fine yesterday! This also happened to be Zoe's birthday, so my viral infection and I had a nice birthday party then went home and went to bed.

Two days into the treatment and apparently I am still contagious until tomorrow. We have a camping trip planned for this weekend and I am just glad I went to the doctor when I did.

Yay for camping, even though there is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow!

I got a ticket for speeding a while back, and I neatly crammed it into my school bag and promptly put it out of my mind because speeding tickets are a drag. I remember looking at the court date on the ticket right when I got it, and committing to memory that I needed to be there at 1:00 PM on April 28. So Monday, April 26, I take it out so that I can fill out the request for deferred adjudication and mail it in, and I realize that my court date was actually April 24th. OH. OKAY. So I missed my court date... don't they issue bench warrants for that sort of thing? YES, they do. So I am panicking and freaking out sitting in my 5:30 class wondering wtf I am going to do because now I am a fugitive. (Granted, a really lame fugitive, but a fugitive nonetheless.) It turns out that all I had to do was go to the courthouse that evening before 9:00 PM and wait two hours to see the annex judge for all of 2.5 minutes and VOILA! problem solved. Now I have to take defensive driving by such and such date in July. Seeing the annex judge was actually preferable to regular court, maybe I will just miss my court dates from now on. Or not get tickets. Whatever.

Cory is cranky because he is full.

Oh, I'm sorry that we just had a delicious meal and your belly is filled with awesome.

Today is my last day at InsurTexas. On Monday I will begin working at a CPA firm which I know will be just about as different from this place as it could possibly be.

It's hard to believe how much I didn't like working here when I first started, and how desperate and trapped I felt. It surprises me that I feel almost that same way now that I am leaving. I will miss many things about this place.

Things like:
  • My huge office on the first floor with WINDOWS
  • The freedom to be myself (this is a huge one because yuppies only typically accept individuality only when it mirrors their own)
  • Knowing where I stand and being liked by everyone
  • Liking everyone I work with in return
  • Being completely in control of my role
  • Not having any drama going on in the workplace
  • The door in the bathroom that sticks closed when you swing it so you don't have to use the latch
  • Working so close to home
Sigh.

Monday I start over. AGAIN.

I was just reading an article about a study conducted by a couple of psychology researchers at UT Austin on the differences between cat people and dog people based on a survey of 4500 people. Very relevant excerpt in 5 4 3 2....
"It turns out that the "dog people" -- based on how people identified themselves, not on what animals they actually own -- tend to be more social and outgoing, whereas "cat people" tend to be more neurotic but "open," which means creative, philosophical, or nontraditional in this context."
I called Half Price Books a few minutes ago because I am trying to get my school books together before school starts next Tuesday. While holding, I was dancing around to Erasure blaring into my ear through the receiver and just not really paying attention to anything. Before I knew it, they had moved on to the next song, and it was Gloria Estefan. You may not know this, but I LOATHE Gloria Estefan ENTIRELY. It seriously took everything I had not to hang up and just forget about the books. As it turns out, I could have because they didn't have the books I needed anyway.

OH GLORIA, why do I hate you so?
