health goes viral

A couple of weeks ago I was preparing dinner and Cory was sitting at the bar surfing the interwebs. In the process of doing so he came across intel that David Sedaris would be in Houston at Jones Hall on April 28. (If you don't know who David Sedaris is then shame on you.) Cory and I are both very fond of him (as many lovely and interesting people are) and we decided immediately that tickets should be purchased. It is about this same time that it occurred to me that my darling mother is one of those lovely and interesting people who appreciate the humor of Mr. Sedaris. (Not only that, but mother's day is coming up.) Presto! Cory bought tickets and a mother's day gift was born.

Cut to Wednesday, we get all gussied up and have some mexican food at Aztecas then head to the show. Everything was fantastic, David was fabulous in person, and then I started getting REALLY thirsty. When I dropped my mama off I went inside and downed five full glasses of water before driving home to have three more. Around two o'clock in the morning I was awakened by a sore throat after which I was unable to return to the peaceful slumber that such pain had interrupted. Upon waking up in the morning I had no voice and felt miserable. I made a doctor's appointment for 4:00 PM to find out that I have a VIRAL INFECTION. WTF? I was fine yesterday! This also happened to be Zoe's birthday, so my viral infection and I had a nice birthday party then went home and went to bed.

Two days into the treatment and apparently I am still contagious until tomorrow. We have a camping trip planned for this weekend and I am just glad I went to the doctor when I did.

Yay for camping, even though there is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow!

I got a ticket for speeding a while back, and I neatly crammed it into my school bag and promptly put it out of my mind because speeding tickets are a drag. I remember looking at the court date on the ticket right when I got it, and committing to memory that I needed to be there at 1:00 PM on April 28. So Monday, April 26, I take it out so that I can fill out the request for deferred adjudication and mail it in, and I realize that my court date was actually April 24th. OH. OKAY. So I missed my court date... don't they issue bench warrants for that sort of thing? YES, they do. So I am panicking and freaking out sitting in my 5:30 class wondering wtf I am going to do because now I am a fugitive. (Granted, a really lame fugitive, but a fugitive nonetheless.) It turns out that all I had to do was go to the courthouse that evening before 9:00 PM and wait two hours to see the annex judge for all of 2.5 minutes and VOILA! problem solved. Now I have to take defensive driving by such and such date in July. Seeing the annex judge was actually preferable to regular court, maybe I will just miss my court dates from now on. Or not get tickets. Whatever.

Cory is cranky because he is full.

Oh, I'm sorry that we just had a delicious meal and your belly is filled with awesome.
